Awareness Raising in the Transport Sector
In 2018, land transport accounted for 37% final energy consumed in Mauritius, with a fuel import bill of Rs 12 million while the fleet of registered vehicle in Mauritius reached 556, 001. Following the trend of the last decade with respect to the registration of new vehicles in Mauritius, it is forecasted that the amount of energy consumed by the transport sector in the coming years will most certainly be on the rise. Therefore, measures need to be taken to curb the energy consumption rate for land transport.
Simple lifestyle changes, such as carpooling and eco-driving, when applied to at a large scale can have a great impact on energy efficiency and energy conservation in the transport sector. Another equally important measure is to raise awareness of people with regard to fuel efficiency so that they make informed decision when purchasing vehicles.
