Functions of the EEMO
The
functions of the EEMO are enunciated in the Energy Efficiency Act 2011 and the
broad ones are as listed below:
I. to
develop and implement strategies, programmes and action plans, including pilot
projects, for the efficient use of energy;
II. to
establish procedures to monitor energy efficiency and consumption;
III. to
issue guidelines for energy efficiency and conservation in all sectors of the
economy;
IV. to
establish energy consumption standards;
V. to
collect and maintain data on energy efficiency and consumption;
VI. to
compile and maintain a database for energy auditors;
VII. to
formulate and recommend innovative financing schemes for energy efficiency
projects;
VIII. to
devise and assist in the preparation of educational courses and school curricula
on the efficient use of energy;
IX. to
encourage and assist project developers in applying for carbon credits for
energy efficiency projects using the Clean Development Mechanism
X. to
devise minimum energy performance standards regarding any
equipment,
machine
or appliance which is imported manufactured or sold in Mauritius;
XI.
to
devise labelling requirements and specifications regarding any equipment,
machine or appliance which is imported, manufactured or sold in Mauritius;
and
XII. to
develop criteria to classify energy consumers.
