Energy Efficiency Competitions 2019
In line with its Energy Saving and Energy Efficiency Awareness Campaign, the Energy
Efficiency Management Office has been organizing Competitions since 2014.
For this year (2019), three Energy Efficiency Competitions were launched. These were as follows:
(i) “Energy Efficiency Live Painting Competition 2019” aimed at Grade 5 and Grade 6 students;
(ii) “Energy Efficiency Champion Competition 2019” aimed at Grade 7 to 10 for Target
Group 1 and Grade 11 to 13 for Target Group 2; and
(iii) “Energy Efficiency Audit Competition 2019” aimed at 18 to 25 years old students of
Tertiary and Vocational Training Institutions.
The three Energy Efficiency Competitions provided students with an opportunity to demonstrate their understanding of energy efficiency and energy saving, investigate related issues and propose solutions.
The prize giving ceremony for the three Energy Efficiency Competitions 2019 was held on Thursday May 23, 2019 at Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Tower, Ebène in the presence of the Acting Prime Minister, Hon. Ivan Leslie Collendavelloo, GCSK, SC.
Overview of the Energy Efficiency Competitions 2019
1. The Energy Efficiency Live Painting Competition was implemented into two phases. The theme of painting for Phase I was “Energy Conservation at Home” and
1105 paintings in total were received from the different four school zones. Out of these 1105 paintings, only the 10 best paintings from each zone were selected for Phase II of the competition which had the following theme, “Energy Efficient Lighting”. The phase II of the competition was held on May 13, 2019 at the Rajiv Gandhi Science Centre.
The winners of the competition are as follows:
1st prize winner - Emma Sheik Bajeet from Jean Baptiste De La Salle RCA School.
2nd prize winner- Tanushri Parmaissur from Le Nid School
3rd prize winner- Chloé Ah Shee Tee from Jean Baptiste De La Salle RCA School

2. The Energy Efficiency Champion Competition was a class basis competition and aimed at two target groups. Target group 1 was meant for students of Grades 7 to
10 and Target group 2 was meant for students of Grades 11 to 13. The theme of the competition was “We are Energy Champions” and 11 submissions (7 reports from Target Group 1 and 11 reports from Target Group 2) were obtained.
The winners of the competition for each Target Group are as follows:
Target Group 1:
1st prize winner – Hamilton College
2nd prize winner- Lady Sushil Ramgoolam SSS
3rd prize winner- Le Bocage International School
1st Runner Up –Loreto Saint Pierre
2nd Runner Up – Universal College
Target Group 2:
1st prize winner – Sir Leckraz Teelock SSS
2nd prize winner- Simadree Virahsawmy SSS
3rd prize winner- Riviere Des Anguilles State College
1st Runner Up – Dr Maurice Curé State College
2nd Runner Up – France Boyer De La Giroday SSS
3. The Energy Audit Competition was, as implied by the name, a competition where participants had to carry out the energy audit of their institution or of a building with an energy consumption of a least 5 tonne of oil equivalent. None of the reports received were retained by the Jury Panel. Hence, the competition had to be cancelled.
