Energy Efficiency Awareness Campaign 2014
The Energy Efficiency Management Office launched an Energy Efficiency Awareness Campaign in March 26, 2014.
The objective of the awareness campaign was to further promote the efficient use of energy in the country and comprised several activities and talks for the benefit of the public in general as well as for all sectors of the economy. This was in line with the objective of Government to ensure efficient use of energy.
The awareness campaign was organized with the support of UNDP Mauritius and with funding provided by the Global Environment Facility (GEF), under the projectRemoval of Barriers to Energy Efficiency and Energy Conservation in Building in Mauritius’.
The campaign, which lasted over the year 2014, comprised a series of activities as follows:
Official Launching of Energy Efficiency Awareness Campaign 2014
Launching of the campaign at the Rajiv Gandhi Science Centre on March 26, 2014. This comprised:
(i)       a media campaign, namely through adverts, on billboards, busback, TV and radio as well as in the press over the period March 19 to April 29, 2014);
(ii)      launching of the following competitions:
-      Energy Efficiency Painting Competition for primary school students
-      Energy Efficiency Essay Competition for lower secondary school students
-      Energy Efficiency Project Competition for upper secondary schools students
(iii)     Signature of an Agreement between the EEMO and two importers/dealers with respect to the Voluntary Scheme on Energy Efficiency Labelling of Electrical Appliances.
(iv)         Presentations on:
-      Réalisation d'audits énergétiques sur le system vapeur dans l'industrie mauricienne;
-      Energy Efficiency and Energy Conservation in Industries;
-      Energy Audit Tool and Energy Audit in Industry;
-      Building Control Act and Energy Efficient Building Design;
-      Green  Buildings/ Energy conservation in Buildings, Global Fuel Energy Initiative 50:50;
-      Eco-driving and Eco Track tool; and

-   Energy Efficiency/Demand Side Management Potential of Deep Ocean Water Applications

Leaflets and posters on Energy Efficiency in Household
Diffusion of leaflets and posters round the island on energy efficiency tips in the household sector.
Display of energy efficiency tips
Display of tips on Energy Efficiency on electronic display boards of Local Authorities.
Display of a message on CEB electricity bills
Tips on Fuel Efficiency
Leaflets and stickers distributed at the NTA fitness centres and through fuel stations.
Talks on energy efficiency
Talks on energy efficiency were conducted by the EEMO at several Community Centres and Social Welfare Centres around the island.
This was extended to private industries and other private organizations that approached the EEMO for sensitizing their staff on the efficient use of energy.
